Not sure what a doula is?

A doula is a person who "mothers the mother"-in other words, a doula takes care of the mother by providing emotional, physical and informational support through out pregnancy and childbirth.

​

According to DONA, having a doula present at labour and delivery 

-tends to result in shorter labours with fewer complications

-reduces negative feelings about one's childbirth experience

-reduces the need for pitocin (simulated oxytocin), forceps or vacuum          extraction and cesareans

-reduces the mother's request for pain medication and/or epidurals
